ONE: Championship – ‘Dagi’ Respectfully Calls Out Eduard Folayang
Saygid ‘Dagi’ Arslanaliev is coming off a loss to the reigning lightweight champion Christian Lee, at ONE: Century in the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix final. The defeat however has given him added motivation to comeback and showcase his full potential.
Speaking exclusively to Asian Persuasion MMA this past weekend in Bangkok, ‘Dagi’ stated that he wants an immediate rematch with Lee. But given how stacked the ONE lightweight division is, the 25 year old may have wait a little longer before getting a second crack at Christian.
When asked who he would like to face inside the ONE Circle, if he can’t get the immediate rematch with Lee, ‘Dagi’ pondered for a second before naming one man he’d like to throw down with – The former ONE lightweight champion, Eduard Folayang.
“Folayang,” revealed Dagi. “I didn’t fight with him [yet]. He’s a good guy, he’s a good fighter, he don’t talk too much. He just do [his job].”
While ‘Dagi’ has nothing but respect for the Filipino superstar and believes that a matchup with Folayang would be a treat for everyone, there’s only one bout the Turkish mixed martial arts sensation is focused on right now.
“I think we can show a good fight but I can’t talk about it, first I have to do a rematch because I have one work which I have to finish. This is the start now I have to finish this or inside I will feel like, ‘Hey, you have work which you doesn’t finish, why you take one more, maybe you can finish this one too’ that is why I have to finish work first. I have to show for me, for myself, for the people,” Dagi stated.
“Christian Lee rematch of course I want a Christian Lee rematch. I think about that all day, all night, all of my last [days] this month, I think about it you know. Only this one, I want rematch nothing more for myself. I don’t know what will be but I will show my best,” he added.
Folayang is back in action at the end of the month. The Team Lakay stalwart takes on Pieter Buist in the ONE: Fire And Fury co-main event, in Manila, Philippines on January 31st.
