UFC: Is Jon Jones Heading To Heavyweight?

As UFC 247 fast approaches this weekend, it seems Jon Jones had set his sights on a new weight division for his next bout. Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Jones claimed that if he successfully defeats Dominick Reyes this weekend, he feels confident he would succeed in defeating the current heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic.

“I feel like I really want to fight Stipe Miocic. I feel like I could totally beat him, just based on his performances with DC, our speed differences, my fight IQ, my versatility, my faith and confidence. I think I’m the guy to beat him, for sure. And I want to strike while I’m feeling hot.”

This is not the first time that Jones has mentioned wanting to fight Stipe Miocic at heavyweight. Miocic, who is currently recovering from eye surgery has somewhat of an uncertain future with no set schedule to return to the Octagon. Miocic recently stated that he’ll fight whoever the UFC send his way. While Cormier claims to be waiting for the third Miocic fight before retiring. But will Cormier get tired waiting, leaving an eager Jon Jones the opportunity to enter the heavyweight division and fight Miocic?

Some may argue that Jones may be offending other heavyweight contenders who may also want to fight Miocic. However, you cannot deny that a Jones vs. Stipe fight would be an incredible event and something the UFC may well just go for. Jones certainly feels he is ready.

“I don’t think I would need a tuneup. I’m pretty tuned up. I’m pretty in tune. I feel great, I feel strong already,” Jones stated.

“I feel like me at a lean 230 [pounds] is plenty.”

While Jones may have one eye on challenging Miocic, the UFC light heavyweight champion found time yesterday to throw some shade in the direction of his UFC 247 opponent, Reyes.

Jones defends his UFC 205lbs title this Saturday night, against Dominick Reyes in the PNC Arena at UFC 247.

Would you like to see Jon Jones move up to heavyweight to challenge Stipe Miocic?
