UFC: Khabib Nurmagomedov Hits Out At Conor McGregor

UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor have a storied rivalry. And there’s no sign of it ending any time soon.

Although they ultimately settled their rivalry at UFC 229 thirteen months ago, where Khabib submitted McGregor in the fourth round, the conflict between the two did not end there.

Khabib added another page to their rivalry, after being asked why he doesn’t wear the Russian flag, whilst taking part in a press conference ahead UFC Moscow. The ‘Eagle’ used the opportunity to take a jab at his nemesis.

“Good question, I was expecting it.,” started Khabib. “People who wear flags say that they represent their native land, but unlike them, I don’t rape women, don’t beat old people, don’t tell people to drink alcohol.”

‘The Eagle’ was referring to reports made public by the New York Times, that McGregor was being investigated for two rapes. As well as the video that emerged online in August of the Irishman punching an elder gentleman in a Dublin pub. And of course his Proper Twelve Whiskey.

The undefeated Russian champion ended his response with a strong message of consistency when representing one’s country, with not only actions but also of good character.

“I represent in my own way, I don’t believe that if you wear a flag you’re a patriot and of you don’t you’re not. There are many things that you must do before you raise that flag, it’s not enough to just raise it you have to show good character.”

Khabib recently defended his UFC lightweight title at UFC 242, where he stopped Dustin Poirier. Whereas McGregor hasn’t fought since UFC 229. Although he has stated that he will return at UFC 246, on January 18th. Despite McGregor’s best efforts to get an instant rematch with Khabib, it is expected that the Dagestani will defend his title against Tony Ferguson next year.
