UFC: McGregor Plans To Fight ‘Cowboy’, Masvidal Then Khabib in 2020

It’s safe to say that Conor McGregor lost his way a little after fighting Floyd Mayweather. Since that night in August of 2017, he has fought only once, losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov fourteen month ago at UFC 229. But while he has only fought once in that time, the Irishman has made plenty of headlines for all the wrong headlines.

But according to McGregor’s striking coach Owen Roddy, his man is looking the best he’s looked for years. Speaking on MMA Fighting’s Eurobash podcast, Coach Roddy also said that Conor has 2020 all planned out: beat ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 246, beat the BMF Jorge Masvidal, and then get his rematch with Khabib at the end of the year.

“That’s the plan. That’s what he wants to do and there’s one thing I always say: when Conor says he wants to do something, if anyone is going to do it, he can. But, let’s not look past Cerrone. He’s a tricky opponent and he’s a veteran with tricks up his sleeve. But Conor going in there the way he looks now, he should do well.”

Roddy believes that come UFC 246, we will see a McGregor like the one that beat Nate Diaz in their rematch at UFC 202, in which he avenged his defeat to the younger Diaz brother at UFC 196.

“Looking at the second fight with Nate Diaz fight, that’s what you’re going to see. It’s that Conor. He’s been at this weight for awhile. He’s used to training at this weight; grappling and sparring, running and doing the miles. His body knows how to move that weight around now and he knows how to move it around quickly.

“There’s no killing himself to make weight and there’s no limit calories in the last three weeks of camp trying to get down to weight…that’s gone. Now, he’s just focusing on his training, doing what he’s doing, looking at his opponent and breaking him down and dismantling him in the fight.”

With the millions in the bank and legal matters past and possibly present, it’s easy to write off Conor McGregor. But this is the man who backed up everything he said he was going to do, when he burst onto the UFC scene.

With his comeback only one month away, we don’t have to wait long to see how the former UFC two division champion is looking and how serious we should take his plans for 2020.
