Vitor Belfort Looking For Opponent For ONE Debut In Mixed Rules Contest

It’s been almost a year since Vitor Belfort signed with ONE Championship and during that time, the Brazilian has called out several fighters, including Roy Jones Jr. and Wanderlei Silva. However, despite the call outs, there has been no fight announcement to date.

That could be about to change though. Taking to social media in the last day, Belfort posted a challenge to all heavyweight and light heavyweight world champions and legends of combat sport, to take him on in a mixed ruleset contest, combining boxing and MMA.

“I left the UFC almost 2 years ago and I still hold the most KO (Knockouts) in the #UFC history.
So, I would like to challenge any world champion #legend with history STRIKING/MMA/BOXING at any weight, light [heavyweight] or heavy[weight].
Believe me, we will shape the combat sports world. Let’s compete BOXEMMA with me under a mixed rules between #boxing and #MMA. ONE Championship [is] the largest and most growing sports platform on the planet.
Let’s make history and deliver the best of both sports, mixed in #ONE.
Chatri Sityodtong a visionary and the biggest entrepreneur in mixed martial arts, is ready to deliver to you on any device of your choice, anywhere in the world, with the highest quality that exists.”

After throwing down the gauntlet to his adversaries on Instagram, Belfort then took to Twitter to announce that he’s ready to make his ONE Championship debut.

Belfort isn’t the only athlete looking for a special special rules contest. Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father Abdulmanap has just stated that his son wants to take on Floyd Mayweather in a bout that would consist of eleven rounds of boxing, followed by one round of MMA.

Last July, Belfort announced on social media that he would be making his ONE debut in a football stadium in Brazil. And although ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong confirmed to us at the time that there were discussions going on, it is more likely that the 42 year old will make his debut in Asia.

Earlier this month, ONE Championship confirmed that they will hold at least 50 events in 2020.

Who would you like to see Vitor Belfort make his ONE Championship debut against?
