Adesanya: I Will Make ‘Juiced Up Monkey’ Costa Pay For His Trash Talking

Israel Adesanya has a point to prove in his next UFC middleweight title defence. Despite defeating Cuban wrestling sensation and divisional danger man, Yoel Romero, at UFC 248 via unanimous decision, the fight lacked any real excitement for spectators.

It was a performance that still bothers ‘The Last Stylebender’ and he will need to regain his previous form if he wants to suppress Paulo Costa in his next championship defence. The undefeated Brazilian has a diverse skill set and possesses knockout power, as demonstrated in his ‘performance of the night’ victories against Johny Hendricks and Uriah Hall.

After a dull 25 minutes locked in the Octagon with Romero, Adesanya told MMA Fighting that he’s looking forward to facing a more aggressive opponent.

“This fight is about me. This next fight is about me, it’s not really about Costa or anyone else. It’s about me proving myself.

“After that last fight, and dealing with what I had to deal with a statue, I’m looking to actually to go in there and have fun this time.”

Costa’s power and accuracy would drive fear into many less experienced fighters. However, Adesanya has fought 80 times as a professional kickboxer and 19 times in the cage so far. Now, he wants to use his experience advantage to punish his opponent in revenge for all of his trash talking.

“This is picture perfect. That’s why I love it. The way he looks, this juiced up monkey, evil Drago looking motherf***er. There’s a skinny boy coming in there to whoop his ass, and when he whoops his ass, the s*** I’m going to do to him afterwards. Oh my god.

“All the s*** he said leading up to this fight, he’s going to pay for it. He’s going to hear after the fight. Guarantee you.”

Adesanya also found time to throw shade at his previous opponent Marvin Vettori, accusing him of takings PEDs. But promised that Costa is going to see the best ‘Last Stylebender’ we’ve ever seen inside the Octagon.

“He’s going to be a guy that’s going to press forward but he’s going to feel me from the get go. He’s going to feel me like no one else in the UFC has felt me yet. I think the only guy that maybe pressed me a little bit other than Kelvin [Gastelum] was the Italian (Marvin Vettori). They’re both juiced monkeys anyway.

“But I look forward to this test. I know he’s a way better version than that and he’s not a southpaw. He’s perfect. He’s orthodox. I’m kind of getting used to fighting southpaws these days. It’s just something I do so I’m looking forward to fighting a pure orthodox fighter that just does the s*** I’ve seen a f***ing million times.”

No date has been confirmed for the his next defence but Adesanya assures us that time and location are not an issue. The only thing on his mind is beating up Costa.

“I don’t care if there is a crowd. I don’t care if there isn’t a crowd. It doesn’t matter to me. ‘Fight Island’ sounds nice. Either there or somewhere in Florida. They’re crazy out there. It would be nice to go back to Dade county.”

Do you think that Israel Adesanya can derail the Paulo Costa hype train?
