Ali Abdelaziz: Floyd Mayweather Is Begging For Khabib Fight

Khabib Nurmagomedov is a man in demand. As a champion, you’re always going to have a target on your back. But according to the UFC lightweight champion’s manager Ali Abdelaziz, it’s not only his fellow 155 pounders in the UFC that want to fight him.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Abdelaziz said that Floyd Mayweather is ‘begging’ for a fight with Khabib.

“One thing I tell you. Mayweather to this day, keep begging to fight Khabib. Begging. Floyd run out of money. I’m telling you, people reaching out to me every week about Floyd fighting Khabib but at the end of the day, we’re not interested. For now.”

Abedaziz also confirmed that Khabib is still “100%” interested in fighting George St-Pierre. Both Khabib and GSP have expressed an interest in fighting each other in the past.

Khabib last fought last October, when he submitted Conor McGregor in the fourth round. Following a nine month suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission for his part in the brawl that followed, the lightweight champion is set to return at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi, where he will defend his title against the interim champion, Dustin Poirier.

Interestingly, Mayweather’s last fight was also against McGregor, after the Irish man stepped into the ring with the 50-0 boxer almost two years ago. Mayweather stopped McGregor in the tenth round. Since then, Mayweather has competed in an exhibition boxing contest against undefeated kickboxer star Tenshin Nasukawa, in Tokyo, Japan at Rizin 14. This went down on New Year’s Eve 2018 and saw Mayweather score a first round TKO win.

Although no one expected the Mayweather vs McGregor fight to happen, McGregor was at least known for his striking inside the UFC Octagon. And the two made great dance partners, when promoting the fight in the lead up. Whereas Khabib is best known for one thing inside the cage, mauling his opponents. So you would have to say that this matchup is incredibly unlikely. Although, you never know in the world of combat sports today.
