Anderson Silva Expects To Sign New UFC Deal – Manager

This weekend at UFC 237, the legendary “Spider” Anderson Silva will face yet another young prospect in Jared Cannonier. Silva had earlier faced Israel Adesanya in Australia, and showed the world that he could still go toe-to-toe with the elite in the sport. The former UFC Middleweight Champion is considered to be one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time, and many expect Silva to call it a day soon.

However, according to Silva’s manager, the former champion is still not done, and has a lot of gas left in the tank.

Talking to ESPN, Silva’s manager spoke about Anderson not even considering retirement. “Absolutely not [close to retirement]”,  Jorge Guimaraes told ESPN. “He’s still got plenty of firewood to burn. He has a very high IQ and knows how to train well. Age is just a number. He never did [recreational] drugs and never drank. He’s perfectly healthy. I think he’s in his best shape ever.”

The 44-year old Silva has just one win in his past seven fights, but according to Jorge, Anderson Silva still has fire in his belly. Furthermore, he also claimed that Silva’s contract will be renewed with the UFC, while Silva recently asked Dana White to get him a fight with Conor McGregor.

“Oh, the deal will be absolutely renewed”, Guimaraes said. “We’ve already talked about that, and [UFC president Dana White is] interested in it. Just take a look what the boom he caused in Brazil because of that. The UFC is interested. Good things are coming.”

Anderson Silva will fight in front of his countrymen at UFC 237, and with a win, could once again find himself in the thick of things in the middleweight division.
