Angela Lee Targeting Second World Title

Women’s mixed martial arts star and reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee could have herself one of the biggest nights of her career at ONE: A NEW ERA on Sunday, 31 March in Tokyo, Japan.

Aside from being one of the stars to headline ONE’s first-ever trip to Japan, the 22-year old Singaporean star also has the opportunity to make history by becoming the first female two-division world champion as she challenges China’s “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan for the ONE: Women’s Strawweight World Championship.

“I’m very excited, I think this is a special fight card here, first time in Japan for ONE Championship, all the athletes are very excited,” Lee said about competing in The Land of the Rising Sun. “Japan has a huge market for mixed martial arts, and I’m very honoured to be fighting here in Japan.”

As for the challenge at hand, the odds will definitely be stacked against Lee, as she’s moving up in weight against one of the most dominant champions in ONE history.

“This is the biggest fight of my career, I’m moving up in weight division, it’s a very big opportunity for me to get a second belt, and I’m very excited, I’m feeling very motivated and I want to put on the best show of my career,” Lee expressed.

Lee, the inaugural and only ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion so far, believes however that moving up to the 56.7-kilogram strawweight division could be good for her, being that it is closer to her natural weight.

“I’m very excited, I’m very happy to be fighting in the strawweight division, because it’s closer to my natural weight. Instead of running, just drilling, technique, sparring.”

Lee even stated that the strawweight division could be perfect for her.

“I feel like like I’m going to be at my strongest at this weight division,” she said.
