Anthony Smith Says Jon Jones Failed Every Drug Test In Their Fight Week

Two years on from his title fight against Jon Jones at UFC 235, which he lost via unanimous decision, Anthony Smith has accused his former opponent of failing every drug test he took during fight week.

Jones earned the decision win on all three judges’ scorecards at UFC 235, despite having two points deducted in the fifth round for landing an illegal knee. If Smith had informed the referee that he was unable to continue, he would have won the fight and would have been crowned the new UFC light heavyweight title.

Despite regaining the title because of Smith’s commendable sportsmanship, a year later Jones threw shade towards ‘Lionheart’ after he engaged in a ‘terrifying’ fight with a former high school wrestling standout who had broken into his house in the middle of the night.

Jones then threw more shots a month later when Smith lost to Glover Teixeira at UFC Jacksonville. It’s safe to say that the comments didn’t sit well with the former title challenger.

At the time Smith, responded by calling Jones a ‘piece of s***’. Fast forward a year however, and the current number six ranked UFC light heavyweight has now stated that ‘Bones’ failed every single drug test during their UFC 235 fight week. Speaking on The Jenna Ben Show prior to his last fight against Jimmy Crute at UFC 261, the 32 year old opened up on his dealings with the former light heavyweight champion.

“After the Glover fight, he had a lot of negative things to say and kind of had taken some shots at me for the break-in and kind of making fun of me which really was kind of out of left field,” Smith said. “Because I’ve never attacked Jon personally. Up until that very point, he had never taken a shot at me personally. He’d obviously said he’s gonna kick my ass, he’s even said, ‘I don’t like that he said this,’ but he’s never been able to refute anything I said because I always talk about Jon very factually.

“He does this well, he does that well, he was suspended for this, but I never get into his drug test bulls***. I never even told anyone Jon failed every drug test the entire week leading up to our fight. Every single drug test. I never brought it up one time in any interview, in any media thing, nothing. The commission called me every day to let me know he was still failing his drug tests. I never said anything, I let it be because I was just focused on myself and always believed that if you just focus on yourself you’re going to be that much more successful.”

UPDATE:

Jon Jones has since taken to social media to respond to Anthony Smith’s comments.

“The week of our fight, Jon failed every drug test.” Jones wrote. “Whatever helps you sleep at night buddy.”
