Aung La N Sang Gives Timeline For His Return

The year 2020 didn’t end the way Aung La N Sang hoped. He lost the ONE middleweight title in an upset against Reinier de Ridder at ONE: Inside the Matrix via first-round submission. However, he still holds one other belt: the ONE light heavyweight championship.

‘The Burmese Python’ is hoping to return to the ONE Circle by April. Speaking to Nick Atkin of SCMP MMA, Aung La said that he wants to regain double champion status as soon as possible.

“I’m Gonna Get My Belt Back”

“I’m gonna get my belt back,” said Aung La. “No, I don’t wanna take any time off. If they give me a fight on Friday I’ll do it too, whatever weight class.

“But I think they’re shooting for sometime in the end of the [winter]. They did give me a tentative date, I don’t wanna say it yet. I have a couple of months, so I’m waiting on that date and hopefully I get a quick turnaround.”

Getting Back Into Action

Aung La has made it clear that although he holds the light heavyweight belt, he’s still focused on middleweight competition. In particular, regaining the title.

However, Aung La doesn’t mind if he doesn’t get an immediate rematch. If that’s the case, the 35-year-old is willing to fight anyone before getting another title shot.

“I’m gonna fight, get my belt back and then defend my light heavyweight belt,” Aung La said. “I just wanna get back in there, it doesn’t matter who it is. Reinier would be great, but I’m sure if he doesn’t take it … anybody, I couldn’t care less.”

Who would make an ideal next opponent for Aung La N Sang?

UPDATE:

Aung La N Sang is set to face Vitaly Bigdash in a highly anticipated trilogy middleweight contest in the main event of ONE on TNT 3, which goes down on April 21st.
