Blachowicz Plans To Give Adesanya A Taste Of His Legendary Polish Power

Ahead of his first light heavyweight title defence against Israel Adesanya at UFC 259, Jan Blachowicz has revealed that he’s “preparing something nice” for his opponent.

Adesanya is moving up in weight to try and join the exclusive club of UFC two-division champions, which includes Conor McGregor, Amanda Nunes, Daniel Cormier and Henry Cejudo. On the other hand, Blachowicz is adamant to prove that he’s not a stepping stone for ‘The Last Stylebender’, or anyone else for that matter.

The UFC’s Offer

In an interview with BJPenn.com, Blachowicz revealed that only hours after winning the vacant title against Dominick Reyes at UFC 253, headlined by Adesanya and Paulo Costa, he was offered a December showdown with the middleweight champion.

“Not right after the fight. But, eight hours after the event I knew they would make this fight,” Blachowicz said. “The UFC sent me a message asked if I wanted to fight against Adesanya in December when I was on the plane back to Poland a couple of hours later. I knew he would be my opponent but not in December, I wanted March.”

Adesanya’s A Good Matchup

Adesanya is a sizeable favourite going into the fight, but Blachowicz believes the Nigerian born Kiwi is a good matchup for him, as he looks forward to proving the doubters wrong once again.

“It is a good matchup for me,” Blachowicz noted. “I’m an underdog like always, but I don’t care. When I win this fight, I prove to people that I deserve respect. A lot of people still don’t believe in me.”

Although Blachowicz acknowledges that Adesanya has a speed advantage over him, the Polish 38 year old said that he has a surprise up his sleeve.

“At 205 [pounds] we have different power, different timing, everything is different,” Blachowicz said. “We will see how he will fight at 205. He will be faster than me, but speed is not everything. I have something for him, I am preparing something nice for him.”

‘Legendary Polish Power’

The ‘Prince of Cieszyn’ has been sharpening his wrestling skills, and said that he will take Adesanya down if the chance arrives. However, Blachowicz also promised to give him a taste of his ‘legendary Polish power’.

“We do a lot of wrestling so maybe I will take him down. But, I like fighting standup, and every fight starts standing,” Blachowicz said. “If I have a chance to take him down I will do it. I watched the fight in kickboxing where he got knocked out many times. I will use my striking to knock him out. It’s part of my game plan but you will have to wait until to see the fight. He will feel the legendary Polish power, I promise you.”

Next Fight

Should he beat Adesanya this weekend, Blachowicz said that he would like to spend some time with his family, before worrying about his next fight, which he eyes at the end of 2021.

“At the end of the year [I’ll fight again],” Blachowicz revealed. “I am a father so I want to focus on my son and my fiancee. She isn’t sleeping during the night but I am. After the fight, I have to take care of my son.”

Who do you think leaves the Octagon with the light heavyweight belt at UFC 259, Jan Blachowicz or Israel Adesanya?
