Chatri Sityodtong Announces More Big Signings, More Big Plans

If you’ve been paying attention the last few days, you would have noticed that ONE Championship has aggressively been signing some of the best strikers on the planet, to compete in its ONE Super Series. The new signings include Glory lightweight champion Sittichai Sitsongpeenong, Glory heavyweight title challenger Guto Inocente, Andrei Stoica’s brother Bogdan Stoica and MAX FC heavyweight champion & ROAD FC/RIZIN veteran Myung Hyun Man.

Not content with these huge signings, ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong has taken to social media to confirm two more exciting signings. Spanish world champion Jonay Risco and Georgian superstar Davit Kiria.

Risco has some huge wins to his name, including Buakaw Banchamek and Andy Souwer. While Kiria has notable wins over Andy Ristie, Murthel Groenhart, and Kem Sitsongpeenong.

With the world’s very best featherweight strikers now on the ONE Championship roster, a second 155lbs Grand Prix is inevitable. And Chatri is fully on board with the idea.

Back in February before the world got really crazy, ONE announced that Roman Kryklia would make his first ONE light heavyweight kickboxing title defence against Andrei Stoica, on April 10th at ONE: Infinity 1. Although this was one of many exciting matchups we lost out on because of the coronavirus pandemic; fear not, Chatri has confirmed that it will be one of the first fights rescheduled once ONE returns.

While there still remains a huge amount of uncertainty around the world and we may be in for a long wait before the fans can return to the arenas, Chatri believes that ONE will be back holding events again this summer.

It’s not only the ONE Super Series roster that ONE have been growing in the last week. The promotion has also signed some exciting mixed martial artists as well. Some of the new signings include former UFC and Bellator middleweight/light heavyweight Tom DeBlass, South Korean light heavyweight Yang Dongi and highly touted South Korean featherweight prospect Ko Hyun Woo.

ONE is also matching its growth within its roster with partnerships outside of the Circle. In the last few months, the promotion has announced a long list of high-profile sponsors (such as Red Bull and Hugo Boss). As well as partnerships with a series of tech giants, including Intel, Logitech, and HP.

And ONE’s high ambition’s are obviously paying off. The promotion was ranked number four in all sports media properties in 2019, in terms of online viewership.

While we can dwell on the negative side of the coronavirus pandemic, let’s look on the bright side. Once ONE Championship returns, we are going to be spoiled!

Which matchups are you most looking forward to, when ONE Championship returns?

UPDATE 19/5/20:

ONE has now announced the signing of multiple-time kickboxing world champion ‘Mr Pain’ Ismael Londt. The heavyweight will compete in the ONE Super Series.
