Claressa Shields Continues To Call Out Amanda Nunes
Earlier this month, female boxing world champion Claressa Shields, respectfully called out two division women’s UFC champion, Amanda Nunes. A week later, UFC president Dana White, was asked about the potential matchup between the women’s boxing GOAT and women’s MMA GOAT. And to the surprise of many, the UFC boss said he liked the matchup.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, Shields was again asked about fighting Nunes and told about Dana’s comments. As she did last time, the boxing champ again stated how much she would like that fight. In a boxing ring of course.
“I’m all for it. I believe that women’s boxing has a lot of catching up to do and that would give us a big boost to have a cross-over, an MMA [fighter] and a boxer fight.
“To go to something I have thirteen years of experience with. And I’ve not only beat all the women in America, but I’ve beat all the women across the world.
“Just know that he can believe in her if we were to get into MMA, you know that she will win because I don’t have any MMA experience but if we can figure out a weight class [in boxing]. The lowest I can go is 150/154lbs. You know, if she wants to gain some weight, me and her can rock and roll and see who is the best striker in the game.”
Just as she did when she first called out Nunes, Shields showed great respect to Nunes.
“Hey, I love what you’re doing in MMA but if you want to come over to boxing, let’s do it baby!”
Shields is a two time Olympic gold medalist. Since turning pro after the 2016 Olympic Games, she has gone 9-0 and holds the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and the Ring female middleweight titles.
Nunes is the UFC bantamweight and featherweight champion, on a nine fight win streak. Including devastating wins over former champions, Miesha Tate, Ronda Rousey, Cris Cyborg and Holly Holm.
