Conor McGregor And Islam Makhachev Trade Shots

Last week, Conor McGregor announced that he would be returning back to the Octagon on January 18th, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Although he wouldn’t reveal who he would be facing. If it were up to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father Abdulmanap though, McGregor would face his son’s teammate, Islam Makhachev.

It’s safe to say that McGregor won’t be taking up Abdulmanap’s suggestions though. Taking to social media, the former UFC two division champion penned a tweet to Khabib’s father, stating that he has no interest in fighting ‘water boy’ Makhachev, because he doesn’t ‘engage in sport combat with convicted steroid cheats’.

Within a couple of hours of McGregor’s tweet, Makhachev himself took to Twitter to fire back, hitting out at the Irishman for the video that emerged online in August of him punching an elder man in a pub in Dublin.

McGregor hasn’t fought since losing to Khabib at UFC 229, just over one year ago. Although the UFC has yet to confirm if McGregor will be fighting at UFC 246 on January 18th, if the 31 year old is on the first pay-per-view card of the year, it is expected it will be against ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone or Justin Gaethje.

Makhachev is 7-1 in the UFC and has an overall record of 18-1. The Dagestani is coming off a unanimous decision win over Davi Ramos at UFC 242. The win in Abu Dhabi extended is unbeaten run to six fights.

Who would you like to see Conor McGregor face on his return to the Octagon?
