Conor McGregor: Dustin Poirier Will Pay For His Recent Comments

Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor has warned Dustin Poirier that he’s going to pay for his trash talking, when they meet in the UFC 264 main event on July 10th.

Responding to McGregor’s comments that the first person to shoot for a takedown in their rubber match is a ‘bitch’, Poirier said that the Irishman’s comments reeked of ‘insecurity’. ‘The Diamond’ also turned the tables on his two-time opponent by saying that the first one to get taken down is a ‘bitch’.

That didn’t sit well with McGregor, who TKO’d Poirier in the first round in their first meeting at UFC 178 in 2014, but was brutally finished in the rematch at UFC 257 this past January. With the trilogy a few days away, the Dublin native looks as focused as ever.

Ready To Put On A Show

During an Instagram Live Q&A (as transcribed by MMA Junkie), McGregor said that he’s going to beat Poirier in all areas of mixed martial arts come fight night.

“[I’m going to] give him a proper head kick,” McGregor said. “There will be a lot of weapons produced on the night, that’s for sure. He wants mixed martial arts? He’s going to get it. I’ve been busy putting in the work. Full focus, fully immersed in mixed martial arts. It’s been nothing but mixed martial arts, so I’m ready to put on a show.”

McGregor, who is known for his trash talking, is keeping a relatively low profile this time around, as he wants to focus solely on the task at hand.

“You can go through YouTube and see every interview in the book,” McGregor said. “I’ve got a job to do here. I’m back on the site. That’s the way I’m feeling here with this. Straight back on the building site.”

While McGregor is keeping quieter than usual, Poirier has thrown a few barbs his way. In response, ‘The Notorious’ said he will make him pay for his words.

“He talks some amount lately,” McGregor said. “He’s going to pay for that, that’s for sure. That’s not going to be nice.”

Poirier and McGregor are set to come face-to-face for the first time since UFC 257 on Thursday at the pre-fight press conference.
