Covington: 100% Fighting Usman Next, Will Fight Good Friend Masvidal

UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington, says that he is 100% fighting Kamaru Usman for the UFC welterweight title next. Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, ‘Chaos’ was asked if he was worried about Usman’s recent comments, when he said Colby needed to beg him, to get the next title shot.

“No concern, this is 100% happening. Dana White already said it’s happening and he’s a man of his word. He’s a republican.”

Covington said he was hoping to fight Usman for the belt in June or July but that it’s likely to go down in August.

“Originally they wanted to do June and then they wanted to do July. But you know, he’s out there faking injuries, so it’s looking like August now.”

The 31 year old also said that should he beat Usman and his good friend Jorge Masvidal, beat Ben Askren at UFC 239, he would be happy to fight him inside the UFC Octagon.

“Absolutely Ariel, we used to fight for free, man. You can go and check it out on YouTube. We had an hour clip of us fighting. We fought hundreds of sparring rounds here at American Top Team for free. So why wouldn’t we fight for all the marbles in the middle and a big fat pay check at the end of it?”

Covington hasn’t fought since last June, when he beat Rafael dos Anjos via unanimous decision. Usman and Masvidal are both coming off of recent wins. Usman dominated Tyron Woodley at UFC 235, to win the 170lbs title and Masvidal knocked out the former title challenger Darren Till, at UFC London last month.
