Cris Cyborg Hits Back At Dana White

Cris Cyborg and UFC president Dana White have never been best chums but it appears that their relationship is as bad as it’s ever been right now. Recently, the UFC boss stated again that he believes Cyborg is afraid to fight Amanda Nunes.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Cyborg hit back at Dana, saying that she wasn’t surprised to hear his comments, adding that she would be more surprised if he said something nice about her.

“You think I’m surprised when Dana says type of things like this? I’m not. I’m gonna be surprised if Dana White says something nice for me. You know, it’s not new for me. And just challenge, I go over there and do my best. Dana White’s never stepped in the cage. He never fight before, he doesn’t know the fighter life because he’s the promoter.”

Cyborg faces Felicia Spencer this weekend at UFC 240, in a featherweight bout and when asked if Dana’s comments about her being afraid to fight Nunes were true, the Brazilian said she will answer every question after her fight with Spencer.

“I’m focused on Saturday and after Saturday, for sure I’m going to answer any question the media has for me. I think I have to take each step at a time and focus on my next fight. And my fans know who I am. My fans know if I’m scared. I’m going to get out of this fight and then talk to media. It’s something I’m going to answer after my fight. I just want to focus on Saturday, to do my best.”

Cyborg’s co-main event against Spencer at UFC 240, will be her last fight on her UFC contract. With her rocky relationship with Dana, there’s a big question mark as to whether she will re-sign with the promotion.

Having only lost one MMA bout since 2005, there will be no shortage of offers on the table. If not the UFC, Cyborg’s next promotion is likely to be ONE Championship, Bellator, PFL or even a switch to boxing, which she has discussed in the past. ONE Championship recently signed Dutch kickboxing star Jorina Baars, who beat Cyborg in a Muay Thai contest in 2014. When ONE made that signing, many believed that this would open the door to signing Cyborg.

Cyborg is coming off of a loss to Nunes at UFC 232, last December. This was her first loss in MMA, since losing in 2005 in her professional MMA debut.
