Dana White Comments On Jon Jones Possibly Fighting Israel Adesanya

If you are Dana White, you would probably be giddy about the prospect of some exciting match-ups happening in the future. Last night at UFC 236, Israel Adesanya defeated Kelvin Gastelum in the co-main event to become the interim UFC middleweight champion. During the post-fight press conference, Israel was asked about the budding rivalry between him and Jon Jones.

Adesanya fired back, saying it was his time, and the night would be about him. “This is about me. This moment right now is about what me and Kelvin did tonight. None of that (topic about Jones). I’ll address that at another time. But right now, it’s about me.”

After Israel’s comments, Jon Jones sent a tweet, which was aimed at the new interim champion, which has since been deleted.

“Just waking up to the morning news, this is about you now b*tch”, Jones wrote.

And Dana White isn’t opposed to booking a fight between the two. However, the UFC President mentioned that it will have to wait, considering Adesanya still has a few opponents to face in the 185 pound division.

“(Adesanya has) got Whittaker to look forward to now”, Dana White remarked at the post-fight presser (transcript via MMA Junkie). “Whittaker is a bad dude. He’s bigger than Kelvin, he hits harder than Kelvin, and he needs to focus on him right now.

“I know (Adesanya) and Jon Jones have been talking some smack, and listen, if he wins, and he becomes the middleweight champion, obviously I’d love to see him and Jon Jones fight. But we’ll see how everything plays out and timing. Because the other thing is if Israel fights Whittaker and wins, there’s other guys that have been waiting in line, too, to fight for the title. If (Ronaldo) “Jacare” (Souza) keeps winning and doesn’t get a title fight, that guy might kill me.

“But that Jon Jones fight is going to be out there for Israel no matter what. That ain’t going anywhere.”
