Dana White Interested In Jon Jones vs Israel Adesanya

They may be in two different weight classes but one of the most talked about potential fights among fans is, Jon Jones vs Israel Adesanya. Jones is the UFC light heavyweight champion. Adesanya is the UFC middleweight interim champion. And not only do their styles make for a fascinating matchup, there’s bad blood there as well.

And it would appear that it’s not only the fans that are interested in this matchup, UFC president Dana White has said that it’s a fight that interests him. Speaking to TMZ Sports, the UFC boss was asked who Jones should face next.

“I don’t know right here, right now, off the top of my head.”

But when asked if he likes the idea of Jones vs Adesanya, Dana said he was. Although warned that ‘The Last Stylebender’ needs to focus on his upcoming UFC middleweight unification bout with the ‘bad dude’ Robert Whitaker at UFC 243.

“I do [like that fight] but Israel needs to focus on [Robert], he’s fighting a bad dude. He needs to worry about that fight. If he beats Robert Whittaker, he’s a very, very dangerous guy and a guy Jones needs to take serious.”

Jones and Adesanya have a gone back and forth over recent months. What seemed to start out as a compliment, turned ugly pretty quick. After Jones said that he believed the two would meet one day, Adesanya responded by saying he had killed one GOAT, in Anderson Silva, and that he’d be happy to kill another. Silva didn’t take kindly to this and since then, the two have consistently traded blows. The 205lbs champion even offered to help train Whittaker for Adesanya.

Jones is coming off of a split decision win over Thiago Santos earlier this month, at UFC 239. In 27 fights, his only loss came against Matt Hamill ten years ago, when he was controversially disqualified for illegal elbows, whilst dominating the fight.

Adesanya is unbeaten in his professional MMA career after 17 fights and like Jones, has two wins under his belt this year already. Against Anderson Silva at UFC 234 and against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 236, for the middleweight interim title. The 29 year old will face Whittaker at UFC 243, which goes down on October 6th. No venue has been confirmed yet but it is believed that it will either take place at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia or the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
