Dana White On Khabib’s NSAC Punishment: It Was A Little Harsh

A day after the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) hearing took place in Las Vegas, the MMA world is still talking about the punishment Khabib Nurmagomedov received.

Although his suspension will be reduced to from nine months to six, the same length as Conor McGregor’s suspension, if he participates in a local anti-bullying campaign, the UFC lightweight champion received a fine of $500,000. Considerably more than McGregor’s $50,000. You can read more about the hearing here.

Khabib seemed most upset about the fact that his cousin, Abubakar Nurmagomedov and teammate Zubaira Tukhugov, received one year suspensions. Saying that he wouldn’t fight while they were suspended. According to his manager Ali Abdelaziz.

UFC President Dana White said he was surprised at Khabib’s punishment, as he said on ESPN’s Sports Centre (as transcribed by MMA Mania).

“I was obviously surprised how much they put on Khabib. It was a half million dollars and six months if he does some PSAs. They had the whole thing contained in seconds. It was a little harsh in my opinion. It is what it is.”

Dana also gave his opinion on the NSAC saying that they wanted to police trash talking in the sport.

“These guys are talking about fighters saying mean things to each other and all this other stuff. If you break it down and you go back to when Ali fought Frazier, and you look at the times when it happened, the stuff he said about Frazier and to Frazier was horrible. Horrible things you didn’t say to somebody else back then.”
