Dana White: UFC Doctor Says McGregor Is In Best Shape He’s Ever Seen

We’re only days away from the return of Conor McGregor at UFC 246, where he will face ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in the main event. Fighting for the first time since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 fifteen months ago, a lot of the talk going into the first UFC event of the year, is whether we will see the Conor of old. Something the UFC president Dana White is wondering himself.

While we won’t find out the answer until this weekend, one thing we do know going into UFC 246, is that the Irishman is in fantastic shape. This is according to Dana, who told TMZ Sports that the UFC doctor has said that McGregor is in the best shape he’s ever seen him in.

“I’m hearing he’s in phenomenal shape. The UFC doctor is actually saying, ‘he thinks Conor is in the best shape he’s ever seen him in’. Head seems to be in the right place. Ring rust is real, I believe in it. We’ll see how that goes.

“And I think the level of disrespect shown to ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone by the media, a lot of the fans, and definitely the sports books in Las Vegas, is insanity.”

Not only did Dana state that he believed in ring rust, he also reminded fans that ‘Cowboy’ has lost before and come back stronger. Warning that the 35 year old is no stranger to causing upsets inside the UFC Octagon.

“This fight is interesting on a lot of different levels. Obviously Conor’s been out a while. Conor has fought two times at 170 [pounds]. He’s got a win and a loss at 170. I believe in ring rust. ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone has gone on these two fights skids before and has come back.

“‘Cowboy’ Cerrone is also one of those guys that needs something big to fight for. It’s more than just the money and all the things that go along with it. This is the type of fight that ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone is an absolute spoiler in. This is his deal. These are the types of fights he likes to be in.”

Not only does ‘Cowboy’ have the weapons to beat McGregor, Dana stated that he will also have a size advantage, come fight night, with Conor likely to weigh under the welterweight limit.

“He’s fought at 170 many times. He’s comfortable at 170. You know Conor McGregor will probably weigh in at 169 or 168, or somewhere around there. It’s even hard for Conor to hit 170. So it’s a very interesting fight against two of the baddest in the business to ever do it. And this is a fun one.”

Who do you think will get their hand raised in the UFC main event, Conor McGregor or ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone?
