Daniel Cormier Has Some Advice For Thiago Santos

This weekend at UFC 239, Thiago Santos challenges Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title. And one man who knows all about competing against Jon Jones in huge title fights, is Daniel Cormier.

Speaking to MMA Junkie Radio (as transcribed by MMA News), Cormier had some advice for Santos, ahead of his main event against Jones at UFC 239.

“I think Santos needs to go in there and fight his fight. Don’t think about what he has to do different than everybody else, what he needs to do to be better. Just fight your fight. Don’t worry about all that other stuff. All that other stuff is just white noise. Worry about Thiago Santos and give yourself a chance. It’s a tall order for him. It’s gonna be a tough fight for him.”

A tough fight it will be for the Brazilian. No one has figured out a way to stop Jones inside the UFC Octagon. And the UFC heavyweight champion is all too familiar with how difficult it is to deal with Jones’ length.

“I saw them standing face to face the other day, and I thought Santos was a little bigger and he’s not as tall as I thought he was. And I think he’ll realize early how difficult it is to deal with Jones’ length.”

Jones and Cormier have faced each other twice. ‘Bones’ won their first encounter at UFC 182 in 2015, via unanimous decision. When they fought for a second time at UFC 214, Jones was originally declared the winner, before the result was overturned to a no contest, after Jones failed an out of competition drug test by USADA.

UFC 239 goes down on July 6th at the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas. Amanda Nunes defends her bantamweight title abasing Holly Holm in the co-main event.
