Daniel Cormier Hints That Stipe Miocic Fight May Be His Last

For a long time, Daniel Cormier said that he planned to retire from fighting before he turned 40, this past May. After his beating Derrick Lewis at UFC 230 last time out, ‘DC’ stated that the plan was to fight Brock Lesnar and then call it a day.

However, due to injury, Cormier had to push his retirement plans back. And with Jon Jones becoming illegible to fight again and Stipe Miocic continually calling for a rematch with ‘DC’, it looked like we were going to see Cormier fight two or three more, before he hung up his gloves.

After Lesnar ruled out a return to the UFC, Cormier vs Miocic was announced for UFC 241. Leaving us to believe that Cormier vs Jones would follow, for ‘DC’s’ swan song.

But speaking to TMZ Sports, Cormier said that the Miocic fight may be the last time we see him inside the UFC Octagon.

“You know I always said that I was going to fight until I turned 40, which would have been March at a card March 2nd but I couldn’t make that one. So if I hold true to what I was saying then this would be the final one. I don’t anticipate fighting much past this. I just want to go out there and do my thing.”

Whether this will be the last time we see Cormier fight, we will have to wait and see but one thing is for sure, the UFC heavyweight champion is confident that he will get the job down against Miocic again.

“I think he’s going to be upset. I think he’s going to be little emotional. I truly believe that he’s going to be a better version of himself. I don’t think for a second that he’s going to make the same mistakes that he did this time. I think it’s going to be a much more difficult fight.

“I get this done. I feel like I will prepare myself and be ready to fight, come August 17th. If you ask me today, I probably couldn’t be Stipe Miocic. I’m out of shape. I’m barely getting started. I’m just working man. I’m trying to drop off the extra pounds. I’ve been living a very cushty life since November, working television and kinda kicking back and enjoying my family, and coaching wrestling. So I’ve go some work to do to get right back where I need to be.

It’s difficult to imagine Cormier not fighting Jones one last time, if he beats Miocic again at UFC 241.

UFC 241 goes down on August 17th, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
