Daniel Cormier Voted ESPYs Fighter Of The Year For 2019

Daniel Cormier has been many things in his MMA career – UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, UFC Heavyweight Champion, and champ-champ to name a few. And now, the current heavyweight champion has another feather in his cap – ESPYs Fighter of the Year for 2019!

Daniel Cormier, who faces Stipe Miocic in a rematch at UFC 241 for the UFC Heavyweight Championship, went up against other UFC fighters including Amanda Nunes, who is coming off yet another outstanding performance, this time against Holly Holm at UFC 239, another ‘champ-champ- in Henry Cejudo, and the current interim UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya.

All four fighters have had remarkable 2019, with Cejudo and Nunes cementing their legacies, while making strong cases for them being considered two of the greatest mixed martial artists we’ve seen in the sport. Adesanya on the other hand has been undefeated in seven fights in the UFC since he signed with the promotion last year, and will face Robert Whittaker in the main event of UFC 243.

Daniel Cormier defeated Stipe Miocic last year to become the champ-champ in the UFC. While Cormier has since relinquished the light heavyweight title, he now can cement himself as one of the greatest heavyweight champions, if he beats Stipe at UFC 241.

More recently, Jon Jones also said that he could very well face Daniel Cormier for the third — and final — time, to bring their saga to an end. Jon defeated Thiago Santos by razor thin split decision at UFC 239 to retain his title, but has talked about moving up to heavyweight soon.
