Demetrious Johnson On Adriano Moraes Rematch: Every Fight’s Different

Demetrious Johnson expects a rematch with ONE flyweight champion Adriano Moraes to play out differently from their first fight, where he suffered the first stoppage defeat of his career after being knocked out in the second round at ONE on TNT 1.

Moraes has said that he’s looking to take some time off from fighting, but eyes to compete at least one more time before the end of the year, against any of the top guys in his division. However, if ONE Championship wants to book an immediate rematch between him and Johnson, he said he’d also happily take it.

Every Fight Is Different

Speaking to MMA Junkie, Johnson said that he doesn’t mind working his way back up to a title shot, but he also wouldn’t decline an immediate rematch.

“It’s always been my preference in all my career, even when I beat people and they’ve lost to me – I have no problem working may way back up to a title shot,” Johnnson said. “But if they offer it to me, I’ll take it.”

Johnson is no stranger to rematches. During his illustrious career in the UFC, the former flyweight champion fought Ian McCall, Joseph Benavidez, John Dodson, and Henry Cejudo twice.

While the outcomes were mostly in favour of ‘Mighty Mouse’, the fights always played out differently, something he expects when he steps inside the ONE Circle with Moraes again.

“I think everybody’s a difficult puzzle to solve,” Johnson said. “Every fighter, to Joseph to McCall to Kyoji [Horigurch], and the list goes on. Even the rematch with John Dodson, it’s always going to be a different fight.”

Although he has a score to settle in MMA, Johnson has also been called out to a kickboxing showdown by ONE flyweight Muay Thai champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon, and ONE flyweight kickboxing champion Ilias Ennahachi. This comes after DJ hinted that he would like to compete in a kickboxing bout following his loss to Moraes.

Do you think a rematch between Demetrious Johnson and Adriano Moraes plays out differently?
