Derrick Lewis Anticipates ‘Bloody And Violent’ Fight With Curtis Blaydes

Derrick Lewis expects fireworks when he steps inside the Octagon against Curtis Blaydes at UFC Vegas 19 this weekend.

Lewis and Blaydes were originally scheduled to compete at UFC Vegas 15, but the fight was scrapped after ‘Razor’ tested positive for COVID.

Overcoming The Odds

Blaydes is a healthy favourite ahead of their fight, but Lewis has made a career out of overcoming the odds. Speaking on the UFC Vegas 19 preview video (as transcribed by BJPenn.com), ‘The Black Beast’ said that he is in the shape of his career, and looks forward to putting on a show.

“What makes me dangerous is the power that I have my hands and my will to win. I don’t care who is my opponent, I believe I have the tools to put away any man,” Lewis stated. “I’m coming in, in one of the best shapes of my career, a lot quicker, more agile. This is my time now to really prove to these guys it’s not going to be easy whenever they see my name on that paper.”

Breaking Blaydes

Blaydes has made no secret of the fact that he is going to implement a wrestling-heavy approach to get the job done, come fight night. Lewis however, is anticipating a ‘violent and very bloody’ fight.

“This fight right here is going to be very violent and very bloody. I feel I could break Curtis by the third round and that’s what’s going to happen,” Lewis said. “This is going to be a very intense battle, we both want the title shot right after this and I believe I could get the job done.”

Stipe Miocic is set to defend his heavyweight title against Francis Ngannou at UFC 260 on March 27th. While the winner of Blaydes vs Lewis will arguably deserve to fight for the belt next, Dana White has revealed that Jon Jones will jump the line to fight for the title next.
