Derrick Lewis: I Can’t Retire Without Fighting Francis Ngannou Again

There haven’t been many fights that have turned out to be more disappointing than the Derrick Lewis vs Francis Ngannou fight at UFC 226 last summer. With all the expectations going into the fight, both fighters failed to pull the trigger throughout the entire three rounds, with just 31 significant strikes being landed in total.

Despite getting the win on the night, Lewis has said that he needs to play that fight back and put on a better display. As ‘The Black Beast’ told MMA Junkie this week.

“I would like to fight him again. If he gets to the title, then, yes, I’ll fight him again. I would love to fight him again if he gets the title shot.

“I have to right the wrong. I can’t retire without fighting Francis again, at least get in a good shot on the guy. God damn, I wish I would have gotten a good shot on him. We’ll see how this year plays out.”

Lewis fights Junior dos Santos this weekend at UFC Wichita, in the main event. Ngannou is coming off of a first round knockout win over the former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, last month.

Would you like to see these two heavyweights go at it again? Let’s be honest, it could never be as bad as their first fight.
