Evander Holyfield Confident Mike Tyson Trilogy Happens

Former boxing heavyweight world champion Evander Holyfield is confident that a third fight between himself and Mike Tyson will happen next year.

Tyson returned to the boxing ring last month after 15 years in a special exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr., which ended in a draw.

Speaking at the post fight press conference, the 54 year old expressed an interest in fighting every two months. Fortunately for Tyson, two of his former opponents – Evander Holyfield and Buster Douglas – are ready to fight him, with ‘The Real Deal’ being confident that the third fight between the two will happen.

The Trilogy

Holyfield beat Tyson twice in the nineties; the first time via eleventh round TKO, and the second time via disqualification after ‘Iron Mike’ bit a chunk of his ear off.

Now in their fifties, the two are looking for a trilogy fight. Speaking to TMZ Sports, Holyfield revealed that his team has begun talks with Tyson’s team.

“We definitely had conversation with him. It is going to happen. It looks like it is going to happen,” Holyfield stated. “Let’s do it baby. … He’s the only guy people want me to fight. If you are doing the thing, you are doing it for the people, because the people make things go around. If it wasn’t the people who wanted [me to fight him], I would be saying nothing to him.”

Boxing is notorious for politics getting in the way of the most eagerly anticipated matchups in the sport. Holyfield however, is confident that the trilogy with Tyson will happen in 2021.

“I think we will come together, [it just needs] a little bit more time. I’m very thankful that I [can] put it out there that I’m ready. … I am a very confident person, and I think it’s going to happen.”

Fighting On The Same Card As His Son

Holyfield’s son, Evan ‘Young’ Holyfield, made a blistering start to his professional boxing career with a 16-second TKO win in his debut a year ago. He is now 4-0, and is scheduled to fight Donnis Reed on December 12th. For the former heavyweight champion, fighting on the same card as his son is something that he would “love”.

“Somebody asked me that. Would you put your son [on the same card as you?]. I would love my son to go out there and be able to [show case his skills],” Holyfield said, when asked about fighting on the same card as his son. “When Mike and I fight, the whole world will be watching. So, you know, I really want them to see my son. It will be a great thing.”

Who will you root for if Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson fight for the third time?
