Francis Ngannou Opens Up About Losses, His Resurgence

Francis Ngannou reminded everyone what made him one of the most feared men until he faced Stipe Miocic, when he defeated former champion Junior dos Santos last weekend at UFC Minneapolis. Ngannou stopped JDS in just 71 seconds of the first round. After suffering back-to-back losses, Ngannou has once again found his groove, and after the fight, talked about wanting a rematch for the heavyweight title.

Francis Ngannou has now defeated Curtis Blaydes, Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos in his previous three fights, all lasting less than 90 seconds, and ending in the very first round. After the fight, Francis revealed that he went back to the drawing board after his loss against Derrick Lewis, and is just having fun inside the cage.

“The difference for the last three fights was maybe me having fun, finding myself”, Francis Ngannou told MMA Junkie at the UFC Minneapolis post-fight press conference (transcript via BJPenn.com). “Because after my two losses, I was trying to figure out why I was doing this. Then I realized at the beginning (of my career), I didn’t even want to do MMA. I didn’t expect to do a professional career in MMA. But since I was having fun training, I was like, ‘OK, let’s do it – it’s fun.’ So that’s why I started.

“Then at some point, I kind of forgot that. So in the last three fights, I put that in the line and tried to focus on it – just to have fun.”

After the fight, Ngannou called for a title shot, against the winner of Daniel Cormier – Stipe Miocic, which will headline UFC 241.
