Frankie Edgar Moving Down To Bantamweight

Frankie Edgar is a bona fide legend in the sport of mixed martial arts. Couple of weeks ago, Edgar faced Max Holloway for the UFC Featherweight Championship at UFC 240. While he couldn’t walk out of the cage with the title, he certainly held his head high. Max defeated Edgar by unanimous decision, prompting people to wonder what’s next for one of the greatest featherweights in modern history.

Few hours ago, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto revealed that Edgar will be going down a weight class for his next fight. Soon afterwards, the former UFC title challenger took to his social media to confirm the reports.

“The cat’s out of the bag!” Edgar wrote. “I’ve been reluctant to cut down my whole career but I feel like now is the time. Excited for a new beginning!”

While Edgar losing to Holloway recently, there was no discernible way back for Frankie to get back into title contention. Alexander Volkanovski is currently being tipped to face Max Holloway next for the featherweight strap. As such, it makes sense for Edgar to take up a new challenge in a new weight division in the UFC.

According to ESPN, Edgar is planning to make his bantamweight debut this November at UFC 244 inside Madison Square Garden.
