Fury On Joshua: If That Was Me, I’d Never Show My Face In Public Again

Almost a week later and the world of combat sports is still talking about Andy Ruiz Jr.’s huge upset win over Anthony Joshua. Ruiz stunned the world by stopping Joshua in the seventh round of their heavyweight title fight, at Madison Square Garden this past weekend.

Many are calling it one of the biggest upsets in combat sports history. And as such there have been the usual memes flying around mocking Joshua and the typical keyboard warriors calling out the former champion.

And not just keyboard warriors, the WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, also kicked the 29 year old while he was down. Posting a tweet saying that Joshua was never a true champion.

One fellow professional who didn’t ‘put the boot in’ though was Tyson Fury, who received a lot of praise from fans for tweeting Joshua, telling him to ‘rest up, regroup and come again’.

Since sending this tweet, Fury has been a guest on ESPN Radio, where as well as discussing his upcoming fight with Tom Schwarz on June 15th, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the topic of Joshua obviously came up (as transcribed by The Mac Life).

And again, Fury was supportive of Joshua, reminding the listeners that his fellow Brit went from zero to hero. From the gutter, to being the heavyweight champion the world.

“He came from nowhere, he came out of the gutter, brought up with no money, he changed his stars and changed his life. He’s probably worth $70 million, he’s done well in his life and career. He’s been the heavyweight champion of the world. If that’s a failure then I don’t know what isn’t a failure.

“He’s definitely done well in his career, but everybody bumps into that one person that can knock them out any time. Unfortunately for AJ, it was the little fat fella from California who chinned him.”

Although Fury again showed his softer side, he couldn’t help himself throw a little bit of shade Joshua’s way, saying that if got beat by Andy Ruiz, he ‘would never show his face in public ever again’.

“He’ll never live it down. Can you imagine? You’re built like an Adonis, you’re six-foot-six, you’re ripped, carved in stone, and a little fat man who has eaten every Snickers and Mars bar in California comes in there and bladders you all over? What a disgrace.

“If that was me, I would never show my face in public ever again.”

Ruiz, who is now the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight world champion, and Joshua are expected to rematch in November or December. After this, Ruiz has said that he has his sights set on Deontay Wilder.

Yesterday, Joshua posted a video to his YouTube channel, reflecting on the fight. The former champion said that he will ‘take the loss like a man’ and stated that he didn’t have a panic attack before his walk out at MSG, as had been reported in some stories.

How do you think the rematch between Andy Ruiz Jr. and Anthony Joshua goes?
