Gegard Mousasi Accuses Rafael Lovato Jr. Of Using PEDs

At last month’s Bellator 223, Rafael Lovato Jr. defeated Gegard Mousasi, to win the Bellator middleweight title. Lovato Jr. won via majority decision in the London main event.

Speaking on the “Vechtersbazen Podcast” on Spike TV Nederland (as translated by MMA Junkie), Mousasi said Lovato Jr. “100 percent” used performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs).

“I should have won this match even with him using PEDs.

“I told the commission that it’s clear that he was on PEDs. [The commissioner] gave me a pat on the shoulder and told me that he was going to get tested on fight day and walked away.”

Mousasi said that a picture he saw of Lovato Jr. made him suspicious and that as well as telling the commission about his suspicions, he also told Bellator president, Scott Coker.

“I have also sent Scott Coker a text, because I saw a picture of [Lovato Jr.] that did not look natural. He told me that he would get back at me and call me. I didn’t hear anything back.”

As well as accusing Lovato Jr. of using PEDs, the Dutchman also reiterated previous claims that Lyoto Machida uses PEDS.

“If the rematch [with Lovato Jr.] isn’t coming, Machida will probably be next. Another PED user.

“Brazilians are known for using PEDs. Americans, too, but especially Brazilians.”

Mousasi lost a five round decision to Machida in 2014 in Brazil, when both fighters were in the UFC.

Before losing to Lovato Jr. at Bellator 223, the 33 year old had won his previous eight fights.
