Holly Holm Posts Statement On UFC 243 Withdrawal

Two days ago we reported the unfortunate news that Holly Holm had withdrawn from UFC 243. The former UFC bantamweight champion was scheduled to meet Raquel Pennington on the main card. On Sunday, Holm took to social media to post a statement.

‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ thanked her fans for their support, apologised to Pennington and provided more information on the injury that has forced her out of UFC 243.

“I just wanted to say thank you for all the love. Everybody sending positive thoughts for my injury. And if you don’t know I have been injured and I cannot fight in Australia. Something that is super heavy on my heart and I’m super bummed out about. To go through a whole training camp and not be able to make it to the fight. And not just for me. This is a training camp for Raquel Pennington as well, my opponent, who I have a lot of respect for.

I don’t know the scientific terms, but the ligament or the tendon that attaches my hamstring to my bone, I tore thirty percent of it this last week in training. And the good news is I don’t need surgery, but one week’s time is just not enough time for me to be ready to fight. So I’ll be rehabbing it and be back at it soon and I’ll let you guys know when the fight is rescheduled. Thanks again for all the love.”

Holm last fought at UFC 239, when she was stopped by Amanda Nunes in the first round, while challenging for the Brazilian’s bantamweight title. Previous to the loss in July, the 37 year old beat Megan Anderson via unanimous decision, a year previously at UFC 225.

Holm said that she expects her fight with Pennington to be rescheduled. The two previously fought at UFC 184, when Holm won via split decision. This was also rescheduled after Holm was forced to pull out of their first planned fight at UFC 181.
