Jacare Souza Breaks Silence After Loss At UFC Fort Lauderdale

This past weekend at UFC Fort Lauderdale, perennial middleweight title contender, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza fought Jack Hermansson in the main event. The 30-year old Oslo native replaced an injured Yoel Romero, and shocked the world, by beating Jacare via unanimous decision.

Jacare (26-7 MMA, 9-4 UFC) had previously defeated Chris Weidman, and was assured of a title shot with a win over “Joker”. However, Hermansson defied the odds, and defeated the former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion.

Following the fight, Souza did not speak much, but took to social media earlier today to thank the fans, while providing an update on his future.

“I’d like to thank everybody for their support”, Jacare wrote. “My opponent had a good strategy and won. Right after the fight I was very upset and disappointed, but NOW God has been comforting my heart and even though I didn’t win, I don’t feel sad anymore. I glorify the Lord for this. I want to thank everyone who believe in my work and support me! I’m taking some time to rest with my family and I WILL be back soon!”

It will be interesting to see what’s next for Souza. With Israel set to face Robert Whittaker next, Ronaldo would either eye a rematch with Yoel Romero, or lobby for a fight with former title contender Kelvin Gastelum.
