Joanna Jedrzejczyk Most Likely Won’t Fight Again If It’s Not For A Title

Joanna Jedrzejczyk made a huge name for herself in the sport of MMA with an exciting Muay Thai based stand-up style of fighting, and boisterous personality. The former UFC strawweight champion defended her belt five times before losing it to Rose Namajunas, and has fought in a total of ten UFC title fights during her career.

In her last bout, Jedrzejczyk attempted to recapture the strawweight title, but came up just short, losing a split decision to Zhang Weili at UFC 248, in a Fight of the Year candidate.

Fight Of The Year

Owner of the American Top Team, Dan Lambert, told BJPenn.com that he believes Zhang got more credit than she deserved at UFC 248, due to the giant hematoma, which formed on Jedrzejczyk’s forehead during the later rounds of the fight.

“That is the best female fight of all-time, but it goes above and beyond that,” Lambert said. “It was just an amazing fight period. A really competitive fight and if you go back and watch it and she didn’t have that swelling in the fifth round, judges were given more credit to the champ because of the damage Joanna was showing.

“I thought Joanna Jedrzejczyk won that fifth round which was the deciding factor in the fight. It was a great fight and everyone wants to see it again. I think the UFC is leaning towards giving Rose the next shot so Joanna will sit back and see what happens. I don’t think a lot makes sense besides fighting for the title.”

Aiming For The Title

Although Jedrzejczyk is 0-4 in her last four strawweight and flyweight title bouts, Lambert thinks she will only fight again if a belt is on the line.

“I would be surprised if she fights again other than a title shot,” he said. “I don’t know another fight that makes sense.”

Jedrzejczyk has been pleading for a rematch with Zhang ever since the loss. But with Namajunas potentially out for the foreseeable future due to the broken nose she suffered in her split decision win over Jessica Andrade at UFC 251, there could be a window of opportunity for Joanna to get an immediate rematch.

Taking to social media two weeks ago however, Jedrzejczyk hinted that she had retired.
