Joanna Jedrzejczyk Weighs In On Jan Blachowicz vs Israel Adesanya

Former UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk is looking forward to the upcoming fight between compatriot Jan Blachowicz and Israel Adesanya, who are set to compete for the light heavyweight title at UFC 259 on March 6th.

The fight is an interesting one as both the fighters have the chance to make history. If Adesanya wins, he will become the fifth UFC fighter, after Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Henry Cejudo, to hold belts in two divisions simultaneously. But if Blachowicz successfully defends his title, he will hand the reigning middleweight champion his first ever loss in MMA.

“Blachowicz Has More To Lose”

Jedrzejczyk, who has also competed in two different weight classes, is really intrigued by the matchup. Speaking to SCMP MMA, the former champion compared the skillsets of the two fighters.

“Jan has more to lose, and Adesanya has nothing to lose. [Adesanya is] the champ in a different weight class — a lower class — and he’s going to fight for Jan’s belt. Jan is bigger, stronger,” Jedrzejczyk said. “It’s going to be a very interesting matchup. Jan has his power behind his punches, his liver kicks, but you know Adesanya is so flexible, so unpredictable… I love Adesanya. I love seeing him fighting.”

“I Can See The Change In Jan”

Blachowicz TKO’d Dominick Reyes in the second round at UFC 253 to win the vacant light heavyweight belt, relinquished by Jon Jones. Jedrzejczyk was truly impressed by her long time friend’s performance against ‘The Devastator’, and believes that the 37 year old is coming into his own right now.

“Jan Blachowicz, he was on fire [against Reyes]. I could see that. I’ve known Jan for like 15 years, and even a few days before the fight, I called Jan and I could see the difference. It was the right time, the right place,” Jedrzejczyk said. “I feel like he’s just getting stronger physically and more importantly, mentally. You can’t stop this. I can see that change in Jan.”

Joanna Jedrzejczyk last fought against the current strawweight champion Zhang Weili at UFC 248 in March last year, losing the bout via a razor close split decision.

Jan Blachowicz or Israel Adesanya, who do you think leaves as the UFC light heavyweight champion at UFC 259?
