Joe Rogan Explains Why Conor McGregor vs Donald Cerrone Won’t Happen

Joe Rogan is a company man. However, there are times when he does give the fans a bit of a sneak-peek into the world of match-making.

One of the fights the fans are excited to see in 2019 is the showdown between Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone. After his last fight against Alex Hernandez, Donald Cerrone spoke about wanting to face the Irishman. Conor McGregor, who is coming off a devastating loss, welcomed Cowboy’s challenge, opening doors to the potential dream fight.

Dana White then said that he would want to see the two explosive fighters throw down inside the cage. Since then however, White has been less than optimistic about the fight. On the most recent edition of the Joe Rogan Experience, the veteran announcer revealed the exact reason why the fight may not materialize.

“They were trying to do ‘Cowboy’ versus Conor and apparently the sticking point was that it was going to be a co-main event”, Rogan said on his podcast (transcript via BloodyElbow). “I think the idea is that they have to have world titles as a main event for pay-per-view.

“I think he’s only interested in big fights”, Rogan said. “Like things that excite him now because he’s got so much money and so much success. It’s just one of those things.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov is expected to fight Tony Ferguson next, while Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier will be colliding for the interim lightweight title later this year.
