Johnny Walker Wants To Enjoy Beating Jon Jones

Since his last loss almost three years ago, Johnny Walker has been on a tear. The Brazilian has fought three times in the last five months, since signing with the UFC, after impressing on Dana White’s Contender Series last August.

In those five months, his three wins have taken him a total of two minutes and forty eight seconds. The biggest adversity he’s had to deal with inside the UFC Octagon, didn’t happen inside those two minutes and forty eight seconds of fighting but while celebrating his last win against Misha Cirkunov at UFC 235, when he dislocated his shoulder.

Despite being on the sidelined with the injured shoulder, the 27 year old still has his sights set on one man. UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones. As he told The Body Lock.

“I grew up watching this guy. I played with him in the UFC game and it [would] make me very happy to fight against him.

“I would beat him. I want to enjoy the fight. I hope I don’t finish the fight very quickly because I want to enjoy the fight, enjoy the moment. Because this is my dream coming true.”

Jones defends his 205lbs title at UFC 239, against Thiago Santos. And although Walker is a fan of his fellow Brazilian, he wants Jones to win.

“Of course, everybody has shots to beat everybody because everybody is human. If you hit in the right point, you knock out the guy. I hope Jon Jones keeps the belt. I like Marreta. He’s a Brazilian but I hope Jon Jones wins because I want to beat Jon Jones.”

The exciting young prospect realises that he needs to get some more wins under his belt before he can challenge for the title. And he’s hoping that the next fight that will take a step closer to meeting Jones, would be the winner of Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Smith, who meet in the main event of UFC Stockholm on June 1st.

“I have no idea [who wins that fight] because Gustafsson is not the same fighter as before. I don’t know, last fight against Jon Jones, maybe he didn’t feel good, something happened, but you never know.”

“Smith? Smith is good but he’s not good enough. He doesn’t finish fights, I don’t know if he has the power to finish fights. I hope Gustafsson wins, maybe a fight against him after this.”

Do you think Walker has the potential to beat Jones?
