Jon Jones Offers To Help Robert Whittaker Prepare For Israel Adesanya

A few months ago, out of seemingly nowhere, Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya starting going back and forth. In an interview in April, Jones said he imagined that he and Adesanya will meet in the UFC Ocatgon at some point. The UFC interim middleweight champion replied by stating that he had slayed one GOAT (Anderson Silva) and that he will slay another one in Jones. This comment didn’t sit well with the light heavyweight champion. And the two have gone back and forth ever since.

Speaking to Fox Sports Australia this week, Jones said he was backing Robert Whittaker to beat Adesanya, when they meet to unify the UFC middleweight title. ‘Bones’ also added that he would love to help Whittaker prepare for ‘The Last Stylebender’.

“I think he’s [Adesanya] done good but I’m no Kelvin Gastelum. I’m a lot different to Kelvin Gastelum and if Kelvin can come that close to beating him, I’m not too worried about him.”

“I’m taking Robert Whittaker. I think he’s the more versatile fighter and I feel like Israel was definitely exposed by Gastelum. He showed that he can be touched by a guy with much shorter reach, a guy that didn’t grow up kickboxing put him through a kickboxing clinic, you know.

“So, I believe that Whittaker can win the fight and if Whittaker needs help training for the fight, I’d love to help him.”

No date has been set for Whittaker vs Adesanya yet but it currently expected to take place at the Marvel Stadium, in Melbourne, Australia, on October 6th.

Jones defends his UFC light heavyweight title against Thiago Santos, at UFC 239 on July 6th, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
