Jose Aldo Delays Retirement

Despite previously stating that he intended to fight out the remainder of his UFC contract by the end of 2019 and then possibly transition to boxing, Jose Aldo has signed a new contract with the UFC.

However, UFC president Dana White confirmed with ESPN earlier this week, that the former UFC featherweight champion had recently signed an exclusive contract extension with the promotion.

Aldo’s longtime coach and manager Andre Pederneiras, also confirmed with ESPN that his man had signed a new eight fight contract ahead of his fight with Alex Volkanovski, at UFC 237 in May.

The Brazilian has said in the past that he would never fight in another MMA promotion. With Dana’s intentions of breaking into the boxing world getting more serious and closer to fruition, there’s a possibility that this was a factor in signing the contract extension.

Aldo signed with the UFC in 2011 and held the featherweight title, until losing the belt to Conor McGregor at UFC 194, in 2015. Since losing the title, the former WEC champion has beaten Frankie Edgar, Jeremy Stephens and Renato Moicano but lost to the current 145lbs champion Max Holloway twice and Volkanovski last month.

Are you happy to see Jose Aldo sign an extension to his UFC contract?
