Jose Aldo Provides Update On Injury, Status For UFC 237

As previously reported, former UFC Featherweight Kingpin Jose Aldo had to get admitted into a hospital after suffering from bacterial infection due to a cut. Aldo was scheduled to face rising contender Alexander Volkanovski, but following his hospitalization, the status of ‘Scarface’ for the May 11th showdown has been thrown into a limbo.

While Aldo has since been released from the hospital, given the fact that the fight is just weeks away, the former champion admitted that he was still unsure about fighting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Speaking with MMA Fighting, Aldo said that he still wasn’t feeling 100% ahead of his fight.

“I was training wrestling last week and I went in for a double leg takedown and I kinda burned my knee on the mats”, Jose Aldo said. “And that got infected so I went to the hospital and my knee was pretty swollen. Once I went in there they just kept me in the hospital.

“Because when I got to the hospital I was only supposed to be there for a night and then the antibiotics they gave me didn’t work. So they waited another two days until they switched the antibiotics which started to work. Obviously, I thought about not being able to fight and I still can’t say that I’m going to fight because I need to go to the doctor and get re-evaluated. But we’re doing everything we can and hopefully, I’ll get healed up.”

Jose Aldo is scheduled to fight in the co-main event, while the strawweight title fight between Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade will headline the show. Furthermore, former middleweight champion Anderson Silva returns to the Octagon, to face Jared Cannonier.
