Kantharaj Shankar Agasa Signs With ONE Championship

ONE Championship continues to beef up its roster, signing Indian MMA superstar Kantharaj Shankar Agasa. Prior to the Home of Martial Arts, ‘Kannadiga’ has competed in promotions such as Brave CF, UAE Warriors and the Super Fight League. He currently has a mixed martial arts record of 11 wins and 2 losses.

The Bangalore native is one of several Indian athletes in ONE, including Arjan Bhullar, Ritu Phogat and Gurdarshan Mangat. Agasa holds a second-degree black belt in judo, in addition having backgrounds in BJJ, boxing and wrestling. Currently, ‘Kannadiga’ trains out of the Indian Combat Sports Academy.

Competing at bantamweight for most of his career, ‘Kannadiga’ plans to drop down to flyweight in his new organisation. The ONE flyweight division is stacked with names like Adriano Moraes, Demetrious Johnson and Danny Kingad. The Indian superstar won’t be short of competition, that much is certain.

However, it has been almost a year since Agasa has last fought, when he beat Nawras Abzakh at Brave 30. ONE Championship has recently returned after a five month hiatus with four closed-door events in Bangkok, the latest being ONE: A New Breed. With global travel restrictions still in place as a result of the global coronavirus pandemic, it will be difficult for fighters to cross borders and join events. But ‘Kannadiga’ hopes to debut as a flyweight in ONE when the pandemic eases.

Who should Kantharaj Shankar Agasa face in his ONE Championship debut?
