Kevin Belingon Vows To Be The Athlete His Fans Deserve In 2020

After a faultless 2017 and 2018, which saw him enter 2019 as the ONE bantamweight champion, this year has been a tough year for Team Lakay‘s Kevin Belingon.

Belingon lost the title to Bibiano Fernandes at ONE: A New Era, via a disqualification. And then came up short in their fourth encounter, after being submitted by ‘The Flash’ at ONE: Century. But despite the struggles of the past year, Belingon remains positive.

“I would say that my career as an athlete this 2019 was not good. I failed to defend my title and lost my chance to reclaim it. It was not really the result I was looking for after all the hard work and sacrifice I made for these bouts. I’m still happy and blessed because throughout these hardships my family, team, and fans are still here to give their support.”

Through all the success that Team Lakay has had over recent years, their athletes have always remained humble and always learned from their losses. And Belingon is no exception.

“One of the most important lessons I learned this year is humility. Win or lose, it’s best to remain humble. I personally believe that it is better to be remembered as a humble athlete than an arrogant champion.”

After falling to 3-1 in his head-to-head with Fernandes this year, Belingon believes that we are yet to see the best from him. With 2020 just around the corner, ‘The Silencer’ vows to not stop working until he reaches his full potential.

“I’m happy with what I have accomplished but I still have a lot to do. My performances alone this year is proof that I have not yet unlocked my full potential and I can not stop training until I do so. It will be a very long road but that would only make winning more rewarding.”

With the disappointment of 2019 behind him, Kevin Belingon promises to come back stronger in 2020, and give his countrymen and fans the athlete they deserve.

“The bantamweight division and my fans can expect a stronger Kevin Belingon. Aside from the fact that I have set my own goals for the coming year, I also would like to give my countrymen and fans what they deserve. A well-rounded athlete on his way back to the top.”
