Max Holloway will indeed move up a weight class to challenge Dustin Poirier for the interim UFC Lightweight Championship, ESPN has confirmed.

Over the past couple of days, Tony Ferguson’s name was mentioned as the guy fighting Max Holloway. However, Ferguson has since taken to Twitter, saying he was unsure about fight, as he deserved better. Dustin Poirier recently tweeted that he hoped UFC would let him go, with the talk surrounding a potential super-fight between Georges St-Pierre and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

However, GSP has since announced his retirement, while Tony has essentially taken himself out of the equation. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.

Dustin Poirier (24-5 MMA) will welcome the UFC Featherweight Champion to the 155-pound division. Holloway (20-3 MMA) is undefeated in his last 13 fights, last losing to Conor McGregor back in 2013!
