Mike Perry Ready To Step In For Santiago Against Robbie Lawler At UFC 245

We had earlier reported that Santiago Ponzinibbio would not be facing Robbie Lawler at UFC 245, and Mike Perry has now officially thrown his name into the hat. The volatile fighter expressed his interest in fighting the former welterweight champion, and has called out Robbie to set up an explosive clash.

Ponzinibbio is recovering from a staph infection, which led to him bowing out of the pay-per-view. “Platinum” understands that his fight with Lawler will be fast-paced with both men more than willing to throw down inside the Octagon.

Mike Perry was talking to the media during UFC Tampa, and said he would be more than happy to invite Lawler for a smash-mouthed style fist fight.

“Absolutely, I wanted that three years ago”, Perry said about wanting to fight Robbie. “Two and a half years ago, or something like that. So if Robbie Lawler would grace me with his name on the contract, let’s go bro. Let’s put on a show. We’re going to throw hands, it ain’t going to be that wrestling s**t.

“I might mix it up. I might change levels. Shoot (for) a single leg, take you down, punch you a little bit, get you disoriented. Or I might hold tight and box. But who am I to be accepted by a guy like that? So I’ve just been calling him out. People call me out (but) you just can’t accept every fight often.”

Robbie Lawler last fought Colby Covington is a surprisingly one-sided drubbing, so the former welterweight king would want to fight soon to get back to winning ways. Mike Perry too would want to get back in the win column, after losing his last fight and suffering a broken nose.
