Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr Set For September

Back in April, boxing legend Mike Tyson teased a return back to the ring. Since then, there has been speculation of different opponents and the ruleset to be used. Now we have the answers. The former ‘baddest man on the planet’ will fight Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition fight on September 12th at the Dignity Health Sports Park, in Carson, California.

The fight between 54 year old Tyson and 51 year old Jones Jr will be an eight round exhibition at heavyweight. Headgear won’t be worn but they will wear bigger gloves than usual. It hasn’t been confirmed yet but it is believed that 12 ounce gloves will be used.

The fight will be available on pay-per-view and on the Triller app. There will be no fans in attendance. Soon after the announcement, Tyson posted the first official promo.

The fight announcement comes one day after Tyson revealed details of his new venture, Legends Only League, in which he will be bringing back legends to compete once again. Not only in boxing, but all sports.

Tyson, who ran supreme in the late 80’s and early 90’s, hasn’t fought since losing to Kevin McBride fifteen years ago.

Jones Jr fought as recently as two years ago, where he beat Scott Sigmon, in his fourth straight win. He held multiple world titles in four different weight divisions in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Both men are regarded as two of the greatest boxers of all time.

It has been confirmed that YouTuber Jake Paul will face former NBA star Nate Robinson on the undercard. Yahoo! Sports‘ Kevin Iole has reported that the undercard will also feature several boxers vs MMA fighters. Tyson has been training with legendary MMA coach, Rafael Cordeiro.
