Oscar De La Hoya: I Would Finish Conor McGregor Inside Two Rounds

The 47 year-old former multiple division boxing world champion, and Golden Boy Promotions founder Oscar De La Hoya, doesn’t think his age would be a factor if he faced former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor in a ring.

Speaking on CBS Sports’ State of Combat podcast (as transcribed by MMA Mania), De La Hoya stated that he would beat McGregor and that it wouldn’t take long.

“Two rounds,” he said. “Come on, brother. Two rounds! Because one thing about me, I went for the kill always. And look, Conor McGregor, I love him in the Octagon, I respect him, I watch him all the time. But the boxing ring is a whole different story. A whole different story.”

As a matter of fact, De La Hoya claimed the same back in 2017 as well.

“You know I still have it in me,” he said. “I’ve been secretly training. Secretly training. I’m faster than ever, and stronger than ever. I know I could take out Conor McGregor in two rounds. I’ll come back for that fight. Two rounds. Just one more. I’m calling him out. Two rounds. That’s all I need. That’s all I’m going to say.”

The fight against McGregor obviously never happened, the former two division UFC champion faced off against Floyd Mayweather instead, losing via a stoppage in the tenth round.

De La Hoya and UFC president Dana White also have a history of going back and forth with each other. Oscar has called the UFC boss a “bully”. While Dana has fired back calling the former boxing champ a “scumbag” and a “complete moron”.

Surprisingly however, in the last couple of days, De La Hoya has praised Dana for his ‘the show must go on’ stance during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Who do you see winning a hypothetical boxing match between Oscar De La Hoya and Conor McGregor?
