Overeem Excited For Potential Mega Fight Between Ngannou And Jones
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been teasing a move up to heavyweight for a while now. He first set his sights upon UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, last year.
As nothing materialised, Jones has since shifted his focus towards Francis Ngannou, for a potential mega fight at heavyweight. The UFC light heavyweight champion and the ‘Predator’ have been going back and forth on social media since UFC 249. And it has caught the attention of fellow UFC heavyweight, Alistair Overeem.
“I’ve been seeing that online, I love that idea of them two, I just love it. I definitely think Jon can beat him.”
Although Jones have been making a lot of buzz on social media about the potential matchup, Overeem believes the fight won’t come to fruition.
“To be honest, with all due respect, I do not think Jon is gonna do that fight, He has not much to win, a lot to lose. Because if he wins, he’s not heavyweight champion. The fight after that would be for the title, I guess.” Overeem said.
Overeem is skeptical about the fight happening but is also excited about it at the same time.
“It’s a complex situation, but I definitely think Jon can beat him. It would be a mega-fight. So it’s definitely something I am very much looking forward to …. I really enjoy these guys smack talking back and forth. It’s really amusing, and hopefully, it will produce some great, great mega fights.”
Francis Ngannou is coming off a spectacular knockout victory at UFC 249, against Jairzinho Rozenstruik, making it four first round knockouts in a row. On the other hand, the UFC light heavyweight champion successfully defended his belt last February at UFC 247, against Dominick Reyes in a nail biting title fight.
Since Alistair Overeem spoke to ESPN, Ngannou and Jones have exchanged more words on social media.
