Paul Felder Calls Out Conor McGregor

Although the UFC has yet to confirm it, it looks like Conor McGregor will make his UFC return at UFC 246, on January 18th. The former UFC two division champion hasn’t fought since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov a year ago, at UFC 229. With it being a year since his last fight, many fighters and fans believed we wouldn’t see McGregor fight again. As with any Conor McGregor news these days, news of his return has been met with positive and negative reactions. One man who is happy to see him return though, is the ‘Irish Dragon’, Paul Felder.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Felder described McGregor’s return as ‘good news’.

“I think it’s good news, man. I think it’s about time the dude finally comes back and fights somebody. He’s holding up the whole division right now. Gaethje wants to fight him. Poirier wants to fight him. He’s talking about fighting Frankie Edgar, he’s talking about fighting basically everybody. The fact that he’s finally at least announced a date, he’s having press conferences, he’s serious about it. It’s good news.”

And Felder would be more than happy to welcome McGregor back to the Octagon. Asked if he had a message for ‘The Notorious’, the number six ranked UFC lightweight challenged him to see who’s the toughest, the Irish American or the real Irishman.

“My message would be: You’re representing Ireland and you’ve got all these Irish fans behind you, but I think they’re turning on you. If you want to fight someone who’s got that Irish blood in them too, he’s an American. Why don’t you fight an Irish American? Let’s get the Irish American versus the real Irishman and see who’s tougher.”

Felder is coming off a hard fought, split decision win over Edson Barboza Jr. at UFC 242. The win was his fifth in a row at lightweight. His only recent loss came to Mike Perry, in a welterweight contest, which he lost on a split decision.
